Parallel Lines Do you believe in the way things are? Do you believe in fate? Describe to me how you see the world, don’t try to run away! Look at your life, you can see we’re the same. What are you trying to prove? Everything you do it’s been up to you, it’s always been your move. Living beside you running in parallel lines. Living beside you running in parallel lines. I never really thought it could come to this. How did we get this way? You and I, we were really the same. Why couldn’t we play? Living beside you running in parallel lines. Living beside you running in parallel lines. Living beside you running in parallel lines. Living beside you running in parallel lines. We’re living in parallels, working in parallel lines. Can’t ever cross to you, nothing connects our minds. Don’t know what happened but something has kept us apart. We’ve been so close but now we seem so far… Do you believe in the way things are? Do you believe in fate? Describe to me how you see the world, don’t try to run away! We’re living in parallels, working in parallel lines. Can’t ever cross to you, nothing connects our minds. Don’t know what happened but something has kept us apart. We’ve been so close but now we seem so far… so far… so far…

Everybody’s Dancing Everybody’s dancing, everyone but me. There’s even some romancing but there’s none for me. Their lives are so entrancing but they don’t capture me. Everybody’s calling but no-one calls for me. I am always falling but no-one falls for me. My life is always stalling but no-one stops for me. Look at me. I’m afraid of the dark. Look at me. I can’t see in the night. Look at me. I have nothing to hide. Look at me. Everybody’s living. No-one lives for me. They are always giving and no-one gives to me. They are all believing but they don’t believe in me. I want to be where the people are. Let me go there, let me go there. I want to be where the people are. Let me go there, let me go there. Everybody’s dancing, everyone but me. There’s even some romancing but there’s none for me. Their lives are so entrancing but they don’t capture me. Look at me. I’m afraid of the dark. Look at me. I can’t see in the night. Look at me. I have nothing to hide. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me.

Faces 03:43
Faces Faces everywhere. I see faces everywhere. I see them on the floor. I see them on the wall. Distorted visions I see. Laughing and screaming at me. Makes my mind go hazy. Seems to me I’m crazy! Why I see them I don’t know but they are there. Ooh ooh! Faces, what do you see? What do you want from me? Silently you stare at me. Tell me your story. Are you so afraid? Talc, dust and a razor blade. Please speak, just tell me why you lie there stuck in a tile? Why don’t you cry out loud now? Tell me of your life. Tell me! Please, anyone of you! I’m a creature of the dark. I stay here in this stark existence in my demise. My time here has no surprise. I see you everyday. A mirror of my decay. And everyday you walk away and leave me here to fade away. Just fade away in this tile. Don’t tell me your problems. Just tell me, how do I get out of here?! I’m scared of everything. Can’t move no, not one thing. Can’t change my mind. Can’t change my face. Stuck here, I can’t change my place! You, though, look at me. You want to understand me. I’ll break down if you want me to but see me, I’m not like you, you’re different to me. See, you’re alive and I’m not. Watch your step, don’t tread on me. Faces everywhere. Faces beyond my care. Faces, oh faces. I face, face faces, oh faces. I step on faces, on faces. I trample faces, oh faces. I cover faces, yes faces. I’m scared of faces, these faces. Screaming faces, oh faces. Broken faces, oh faces. I hate these faces

Sometimes/Always People make you feel good, sometimes make you happy and others make you feel sad. I watch the people go by, sometimes rushing around they never seem to feel life. It’s in their hands. It’s in their soul. They may not notice your face, always not see you smile and they will never know you. There’s one you will remember, always because she smiled back. Her warmth glowed through her life that’s in her hands. It’s in her soul and you’ll always feel happy, happy, happy in your life. In your life. In your life.

Running In The Wind When I was a boy I loved running in the wind with my head spinning round I could take the world in. I was running with the wind when I saw you. Looking at your face, it was smiling at the sun and I could hear your laugh, the world had so much fun. I didn’t see you cry, it was inside you. But now I know you hurt though behind cold eyes you hide. The tears and pain won’t show, they will never dent your pride. Will you ever cry? Looking back to then I can still feel the wind with my head spinning round, I can hear your laughing. Can we go back there again? Can I see you? I sense you’re feeling bad about the way things have become. You have to sort it out. You can’t stay in there too long. Won’t you come back again, let me see you? Because now I know you hurt though behind cold eyes you hide The tears and pain won’t show, they will never dent your pride. Will you ever cry? Will you ever cry? When I was a boy I loved running in the wind with my head spinning round I could take the world in. I was running with the wind when I saw you. Looking at your face, it was smiling at the sun and I could hear your laugh, the world had so much fun. I didn’t see you cry, it’s still inside you.

Winter 03:14
Winter When the bird of the sky settles down on a tree and it rests its weary wings, there it wonders when it’s going to fly again and then it’s off into the light of day. It flies south for the winter don’t you know? And I know it knows which way to go. It flies down south for the sun to get away from the cold and the glum of winter. The winter cold is here again and the rain and snow are here as well. The days get shorter, nights are darker and the sun is a rare sight to see. Yes, the sun is a rare sight to see. And the bird of the sky comes down to the south and it feels the sun’s warm love. There, no-one sees what’s going on and nobody notices it’s moving on. It goes back for the summer don’t you know? And I know it knows which way to go. It goes back north for the sun to get away from the cold and the glum of winter. The winter cold comes back again and the rain and snow return as well. The days get shorter, nights are darker and the sun is a great sight to see. Yes, the sun is a great sight to see. The winter follows us around though we prefer the summer sound. The bird just flies to the sun rarely feels the cold and the glum…

Sail Away 03:03
Sail Away Once I saw your loving face, I knew the world could never end. I’ll remember your sweet smile forever, my friend. Then I sensed within your eyes, love, such a sadness to the core. Oh my heart went out to you and, please, I do implore, Sail away now, my love, if must be. Oh, sail away but return soon to me. Sparkly eyes were all I saw, we stayed as one ‘til all was done and the sails, so full of wind, away to the sun. Sail away now, my love, as must be. Oh, sail away but return soon to me. Sitting here for evermore. Willing your cold ship to shore. See my love, I think of you. See my smile awaiting too. Time will pass, love, and then you’ll return. Until the day, then, my heart still will yearn. Once I saw beyond the sun, I knew our life would start again. I’ll remember your sweet smile, my love, ‘til the end. Time will pass, love, and then you’ll return. Until the day, then, my heart still will yearn. Sail away now, my love, as must be. Oh, sail away and return soon to me.

Life Death 03:27
Life In the quiet stillness of the night all around us becomes clear. The love of light in the sight of love, the messy smell in the well of death. And life, the clearer of the dark, shall remain anonymous and, yet, a martyr. The unknown hero - our guiding light and saviour. Death I see a window. Curtains are shut tight. The sun is shining. Inside it is night. Ooh. Oh. Mmm.

Shooting Star I saw stars and a flashing light intersperse my visions of ghosts in the night. Distorted views that tried to scream. There was no sound but so loud was the dream. My best friend died the other day. I didn’t understand, it happened so fast. The car ran away from his hands, the tree didn’t know he was my friend. I don’t understand, I don’t understand. I don’t understand, I don’t understand. People running round through the stars, jumping out of mirrors made of silver grass. Silver shards shooting through the eyes and the ears of a chosen few. My best friend died the other day. I didn’t understand, didn’t understand. My best friend died he ran away to another land I don’t understand. Ooh ooh. The tree didn’t know he was my friend. I don’t understand, can any lend a hand? Oh, oh, let me understand. I saw stars and a flashing light intersperse my visions of ghosts in the night. Distorted views that tried to scream. There was no sound but so loud was the dream.

Eternal 04:25
Eternal There is nothing like that first glance and you know that there is life. There is nothing like that first kiss so electrically tender, it binds. There is nothing like that first touch such a gentle caress, it lives. There is nothing like that first time and each time is the first time and the first time is then eternal.

Lightning 02:38
Lightning The sound of thunder fills the air, from the distance it rolls on. The storm’s approaching, hair’s on end, you can smell the rain drive on. Some people trying to run away, others just have to stand and stay. Out across the water, lightning over the sky line. The flashes light the darkened sky and the wind blows up the sea. The rain pours down and pelts your face, it’s as warm as rain can be. Some people trying to run away. others just have to stand and stay. Out across the water, lightning over the sky line. Here it comes, closer to me. It explodes all around me. Take me away with you. I want to go with you. The sound of thunder fills the air, in the distance it rolls on. It left me here just soaking wet, such a thrill but now it’s gone. Some people tried to run away, others just had to stand and stay. Out across the water, lightning over the sky line. Lightning over the sky line. Lightning over the sky line.

A Child’s Hope Take me by the hand, come along with me. Take me by the hand, come along with me. Life is sacred. Life must go on. Every time I dream I think of you, even though your face, I never knew. Life is sacred. Life must go on. As you call for peace I am with you now. Let your spirits grow as they must somehow. Life is sacred. Life must go on. With your hand so frail and your friendly face. You can still reach out and smile with grace. Life is sacred. Life must go on. Life is sacred. Life must go on.

Old Man 03:31
Old Man Little boy, sitting in the corner waiting for life to come your way. Led by the hand, you get all you need, follow the step, do what you can… You want to live to be an old man. Young man, standing on the corner searching for a girl to come your way. Where are you going? What will you do? Out on your own, do what you can… You want to live to be an old man. Well, you’ve lived half your life and you’re standing all alone. Somewhere there’s a wife with a kid and a home…! Working man, drinking in the corner, thinking about a world you haven’t seen. You’re leaving behind all those that follow, losing their step, breaking their plan… You’re going to live to be an old man. Old man, shrinking in the corner. Where have you been? What have you done? Where is your life? Where is your son? He’s on his own doing all that he can… He wants to live to be an old man. Little boy, sitting in the corner waiting for life to come your way…

Port Arthur - Live On People hurting sit and stare. People hurting, take some care. Look for ways to ease the pain. Look away. Fight the fears and live again, again. Answers cannot reach the lips, never touch the fingertips. Live on. Live on. People seeking answers why. People hurting, let them cry. Let the ache out, let it heal. Give it time. Hear the bells that ring and peal for you. Every heart goes out to you. Every hug will comfort too. Live on. Live on. Tears may run and scars may stain. Tears may wash as they remain. Look for love in everything. Love again. Listen to the birds sing again. Take a chance, take some air. Take some hope from everywhere. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on. Live on.

Dawn Gives 06:05
Dawn Gives Dawn gives, dawn grows and colours burst everywhere as shadows linger and fade away. Bird song echoes, it trembles and disappears as voices enter to the fray. Can the truth be seen outside when the masks cover the eyes? And as time goes by there’s no change and the past, has been, still remains. Sunshine, blinding, it takes time for our eyes to adjust to the warmth and the light. Danger, it’s everywhere, it sees us before we can prevent things from going all wrong. Can the truth be seen outside when the masks cover the eyes? And as time goes by there’s no change and the past, has been, still remains. Take time to understand that strength grows from knowing who you are. Make time to look inside your mind and your heart will tell you all. Time flies, hours pass and most of us lose ourselves by working, resting and we eat. It’s normal, sensible, there’s no pretensions here but sometimes, someone changes things. And the truth is torn once more and the masks fall from the face. And you know nothing is the same and you know it’s you who must change. Take time to understand that strength grows from knowing who you are. Take one step at a time and look forward to everything you see. Dusk falls, twilight, and colours glow everywhere ‘til darkness covers and takes away. Candles, false lights, try to make it day so people are able to carry on. Dreamers, lovers, they see the beauty in the eyes of the faces they behold. Take care, carry on. Try to live your life for each day’s a new chance to be… To be.

about

I have been writing and recording at home for a long time. A lot of my songs ended up in musicals or were used for the albums Suite: Sophie and Matchbox. And then there were those which didn't fit into other plans and yet, to my mind, were worth doing something with - the left overs!

The older recordings (done on a 4-track) were ok but very scrappy and unrefined. As I became more attuned to the digital capabilities of Cubase so my techniques improved.

In 2013, I set about rethinking the older songs and included a couple of 'newer' songs on the way and prepared to record again. It was truly interesting revisiting creations from 20 years beforehand and I feel I was able to capture a truer spirit of the time. Maturity of style etc.

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did in writing and recording.
